Annonaceae

Annonaceae is one of the largest Magnoliidae families, with about 2400 species distributed in 108 genera, mostly pantropical. Some species of Annonaceae family have different applications in popular medicine. For instance, the infusion of Annona dioica A. seeds is used to treat diarrhea, and plasters prepared with the fruit are considered to have emollient properties. The infusion of leaves is said to help treat rheumatism. Some species of this family are known for their composition of secondary metabolites with a role in defense mechanisms, including alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids.
