Apocynaceae

The family Apocynaceae is one of the largest and most important families in angiosperm. Several members of this family have medicinal properties and have been in the treatment of various ailments. Many of these plants have milky latex, and many species are poisonous if ingested, the family being rich in genera containing alkaloids and cardiac glycosides, those containing the latter often finding use as arrow poisons. In the Apocynaceae family, the members produce more than 100 medicinally-important terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs).
