Gentianaceae

Gentianaceae is a family of flowering plants of 103 genera and about 1600 species. Gentiana is one of the largest and most important genera of the family known for its bitter taste which is due to the presence of secoiridoids like swertiamarin. In Indian, Unani and Chinese traditional medicine, the dried rhizomes are used as hepatoprotective agents, appetizers, for bronchial problems and solutions for gastric troubles.
