Loganiaceae

The Loganiaceae are a family of flowering plants classified in the order of Gentianales. Many members of the Loganiaceae are poisonous due to the alkaloids found in them. The well-known toxic medicine Gelsemium elegans is widely and historically used to treat the bone fracture and skin ulcers by the folk people of China. Gelsemine is a natural alkaloid extracted from it. Gelsemine has been shown to penetrate the brain and could produce neurological activities, such as anxiolytic and neuralgia-alleviating effects.
