Description | Tetramisole hydrochloride (Tetramisole HCl) inhibits alkaline phosphatase and is a high-purity antiparasitic agent. |
In vitro | Administration of 2 mg/kg Tetramisole induced a more pronounced contraction response in cats compared to non-treated controls. Following a 20-second delay upon administration, cats exhibited a strong contraction of the nictitating membrane and a transient decrease in blood pressure, succeeded by a sustained elevation for up to 20 minutes. Dosages of 5-10 mg/kg Tetramisole in rabbits resulted in a brief but dramatic drop in blood pressure, which, in part, antagonized the effects of atropine. After administering 15 mg/kg Tetramisole to sheep for three weeks, an increase in fecal nematode egg counts was observed, continuously rising through the 12th week. |
In vivo | At a concentration of 0.1 mM, Tetramisole enhances the twitch response in chickens, facilitates the preparation for and reversal of Tubocurarine-induced inhibition, leading to a reversible neuromuscular blockade and muscle contractions. In cats, 0.1 mM Tetramisole directly or indirectly stimulates muscles, augmenting the twitch response. At 10 μg/mL, Tetramisole acts on worm viruses, resulting in sustained contractions of isolated muscles. Additionally, Tetramisole affects the muscles of Ascaris (roundworms) by reducing the resting potential from 34 mV to 10 mV and inducing contractions in muscles previously depolarized with a high-potassium solution. |
