Research Background | Leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein-coupled receptor 5 (LGR5) plays a vital role in the development of malignant tumors. Leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein coupled receptor 5 (LGR5) is highly expressed in colorectal tumors and marks colon cancer stem cells that drive tumor growth and metastasis. LGR5, a well-characterized marker of stem cell and cancer stem cells (CSCs), is best known as a transmembrane receptor for increases canonical Wnt signaling amplitude. LGR5 expressing cells are not limited to the postulated stem cell niche but LGR5 expression is hormonally regulated. |
