Description
β-Aminoarteether maleate (SM934), an orally active derivative of Artemisinin, is utilized in the research of inflammation and autoimmune diseases, including lupus [1].
In vitro
β-Aminoarteether (SM934; 10 µM; 24 hours) treatment directly enhances IL-10 production and suppresses IL-12/23p40 production in primary peritoneal macrophages with IFN-γ stimulation.[1] In vitro, β-Aminoarteether (SM934) suppresses Th1 and Th17 polarization without influencing Treg differentiation.[1]
In vivo
The treatment with β-Aminoarteether (SM934; 1-10 mg/kg; oral administration; daily; for 3 months) significantly delays the progression of glomerulonephritis and increases survival rates in female NZB/W F1 mice (six and half months old). Additionally, β-Aminoarteether treatment promotes IL-10 production by macrophages from these mice [1].
