Research Background | Cadherin 10 (CDH10) is a type II cadherin predominantly expressed in the brain, putatively involved in axon outgrowth and guidance. Also known to mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion and maintain the correct balance between excitation and inhibition in neuronal dendrites., CDH 10 has a large N-terminal extracellular domain (containing 5 cadherin motif subdomains which appear to determine the specificity of the protein's homophilic cell adhesion activity), a single membrane-spanning domain, and a small, conserved C-terminal cytoplasmic domain. CDH10 spans 157.7kb on chromosome 5 and produces two transcript variants. Mutations and loss of expression of this protein have been observed in multiple cancer types, including gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, endometrial and lung. Genetic variations nearby the CDH10 genetic region have been associated with autism. |
