Cell Adhesion Receptors are proteins on the cell surface, mostly glycoproteins. They mediate adhesion and interaction between cells or between cells and matrix, and can transduce signals. It plays an important role in regulating gene expression and cell growth, constructing cytoskeleton, cell cycle and apoptosis. Alterations in cell adhesion can disrupt important cellular processes, leading to a variety of diseases. In the field of cancer, the most studied adhesion receptors are integrin and cadherin.
