Cell adhesion is the process by which cells interact and attach to neighbouring cells through specialised molecules of the cell surface. This process involves proteins on the cell surface. such as CD antigens. Cell adhesions can be described as a functional extension of the actin cytoskeleton. Cell adhesions are mediated by either transmembrane cell-adhesion molecules, or adhesion receptors.
