Nona-L-arginine (Arg)9 acetate, a cell-penetrating peptide (CPP) consisting of 9 arginine residues, displays neuroprotective properties, with an IC50 of 0.78 μM in the glutamic acid model [1] [2].
In vitro
(Arg)9 acetate, at concentrations of 5-10 μM, demonstrates substantial dose-dependent neuroprotection against glutamic acid exposure, with an IC50 value of 0.78 μM. Its neuroprotective efficacy is reduced in the kainic acid model, exhibiting an IC50 of 0.81 μM. Moreover, it provides neuroprotection in in vitro ischemic conditions, with an IC50 of 6 μM [1].
In vivo
The compound '(Arg)9' (Nona-L-arginine; administered intravenously at 1 μM/kg in a volume of 600 μL; once for 30 minutes) exhibits neuroprotective properties and decreases infarct size in male Sprague-Dawley rats using a permanent middle cerebral artery stroke model [2].
