In vitro
Arterolane (also known as Trioxolane 7; OZ277; RBx-11160) exhibits inhibitory effects on a variety of Plasmodium falciparum strains, demonstrating IC50 values as follows: 1.0, 1.6, 0.90, 0.91, 1.4, 1.5, 0.83, and 0.84 ng/mL against P. falciparum strains K1, Fc27, FVO, NF54, HB3, FCB1, ITG2-F6, and MAD20 respectively. Furthermore, this antimalarial agent shows potent efficacy with IC50s of 1.1 nM (0.43 ng/mL) against both P. falciparum strains Ro73 and W2.
