The fullerene core exhibits a high affinity for electron donors, enabling it to effectively scavenge free radicals. Moreover, the C60 molecule efficiently absorbs UV and visible light, transitioning first to the singlet excited state, then to a longer-lived triplet excited state, and finally transferring energy to molecular oxygen to yield singlet oxygen with a quantum yield near 100%[1].
