Description
Zolimidine, an imidazopyridine derivative, functions as an orally active antiulcer agent. It promotes mucus secretion in intestinal mucosal cells and enhances the intestinal wall's resistance to ulceration. Studies demonstrate its gastroprotective effect in duodenal ulcer research [1] [2].
In vivo
Zolimidine (200 mg/kg; orally) reduces the incidence of intestinal ulcers in rats induced by indomethacin (5 mg/kg/day for 8 days; rectally) [2]. Additionally, zolimidine (incorporated into the diet at a 1% concentration) decreases the occurrence of intestinal ulcers in guinea pigs caused by carrageenan (added to drinking water at a 5% concentration for 40 days) [2].
