SMP-028 is a neutral cholesterol esterase (CEase) inhibitor(IC50 : 1.01 μM).

In vitro
SMP-028 potently inhibits neutral cholesterol esterase (CEase) with an IC50 of 1.01 μM in a concentration-dependent manner. However, it weakly inhibits other steroidogenic enzymes, with IC50 values >10 μM. Specifically, SMP-028 does not inhibit acid CEase and only weakly affects CYP11A1, with IC50 values >100 μM and 49.8 μM, respectively [1]. At concentrations of 10 μM or less, SMP-028 does not affect the viability of male adrenal cells, female adrenal cells, testicular cells, or ovarian cells, but concentrations above 30 μM significantly reduce the viability of male and female adrenal cells [2].
