AV-153 free base is a 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) derivative with antimutagenic and anti-cancer activity. It interacts with cytosine and thymine, influences poly(ADP)ribosylation, intercalates to DNA at single-strand breaks, reduces DNA damage, and stimulates DNA repair in human cells in vitro [1] [2] [3].

AV-153 free base demonstrates inhibitory concentration values (IC50s) of 14.9 mM and 10.3 mM for Raji and HL-60 cells, respectively [1]. Furthermore, it significantly decreases the occurrence of DNA single-strand breaks (SSBs) in peripheral blood lymphocytes and HL-60 cells by 13–67% when applied in concentrations ranging from 1 nM to 10 μM over a duration of 3 hours [1].
