Description

BODIPY aminoacetaldehyde (BAAA) is a fluorescent substrate for aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) and can be used to isolate human hematopoietic stem cells based on ALDH activity.

In vitro

Based on preliminary titration experiments, cell lines were labeled with 20 μM BODIPY aminoacetaldehyde, and mononuclear UCB cells were labeled with 1 μM BODIPY aminoacetaldehyde for 30 min. Staining was inhibited by DEAB, confirming that the fluorescence emission of the BODIPY aminoacetaldehyde -stained UCB was the result of ALDH activity. The BODIPY aminoacetaldehyde -stained UCB exhibited two distinct peaks of fluorescence emission. [1]
