In vitro | Captopril hydrochloride (SQ 14225) offers comparable benefits in reducing morbidity and mortality to diuretics and beta-blockers for treating hypertension. It also slows the progression of diabetic nephropathy, similarly to how enalapril and lisinopril prevent nephropathy onset in normoalbuminuric diabetic patients. Moreover, Captopril hydrochloride exists in solution as an equimolar mixture of cis and trans states, with only the trans state being specifically selected by the enzyme due to its structural and stereochemical match with the enzyme's substrate binding site. |
