Description
Phosal 50 PG is a co-solvent used as an emulsifier and stabilizer in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.Phosal 50 PG is used as a dietary supplement.
In vitro
Phosal 50 PG has superior emulsifying capacity over Phosal 53MCT and is more miscible with water in the presence of glycerol. The presence of the PG in Phosal 50 PG leads to a more uniform formulation and prevents phase separation. [1]
In vivo
Phosal 50 PG is commonly used as a co-solvent. Phosal 50 PG may be cloudy and viscous. This characteristic does not affect the use and the solution can be heated until it clarifies.
Oral administration in lipid-based formulations (in 10% ethanol, 30% PEG400, and 60% Phosal 50 PG), in which the compound is significantly more soluble, yielded enhanced absorption with bioavailability near 50%. [1]
