Description | Globomycin, a lipopeptide antibiotic, is an inhibitor of signal peptidase II (LspA). It binds irreversibly to the peptidase, thereby inhibiting the processing of the prolipoprotein. |
In vitro | Globomycin effectively inhibits the growth of S. melliferum with MICs of 12.5 μM for strain B88 and 6.25 μM for strain BC3. It interferes with bacterial lipoprotein processing by inhibiting signal peptidase II in gracilicutes (Gram-negative eubacteria) and firmicutes (Gram-positive eubacteria) [1]. In B. diminuta DS010 cells treated with Globomycin, most organophosphate hydrolase (OPH) accumulates in the cytoplasm in an unprocessed form, whereas untreated cells show minimal precursor and increased mature OPH in the membrane fraction [2]. |
