Description | Benzoquinamide hydrochloride (3-carbamoyl-N,N-diethyl-1,3,4,6,7,11b-hexahydro-9,11-dimethoxy-2H-benzo[a]quinolizin-2-yl acetate hydrochloride) is an antiemetic agent and increases intra-arterial pressure due to the increased peripheral vascular resistance. |
In vivo | Benzquinamide (0.5 to 5 mg/kg; i.v.) caused tachycardia, elevated blood norepinephrine levels, frequent ventricular arrhythmias, and brief hypotension. Ganglionic blockade by hexamethonium prior to administration of benzquinamide prevented the tachycardia and alterations in norepinephrine levels but prolonged the period of hypotension. In isolated mesenteric arterial preparations, benzquinamide interfered with the contractile force generated by potassium chloride, norepinephrine, and prostaglandin F2 alpha[3]. |
