Calcium trinatrium diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid hydrate (Ca-DTPA trisodium salt hydrate) is a metal chelator and a nontoxic inhibitor of CMV replication, as well as a useful antidote in cases of acute cadmium intoxication.
In vitro
The antiviral activity of Calcium trinatrium diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid hydrate is inhibited by metal ions in the following decreasing potency order: Mn2+/Zn2+>Fe2+>Cu2+>Fe3+. Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid calcium trisodium salt hydrate inhibits CMV L-antigen production with an EC50 range of 6.1-9.9 μM [2].
