Bioactivity
Description
SMBA1 is a highly potent Bax agonist with antitumor activity that induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in malignant glioma cells. SMBA1 can be used to study triple-negative breast cancer.
In vitro
SMBA1 exhibited Bax agonist activity by inhibiting the phosphorylation of S184, promoting the insertion of Bax into the mitochondrial membrane and the formation of Bax oligomers, and thereby inducing conformational changes in Bax. SMBA1 (0, 0.1, 1, 5, 10 µM; 24 hr) potentiated Bax expression in a dose-dependent manner in A549 cells. [1]
In vivo
SMBA1 (2, 10, 40, 60 mg/kg; intraperitoneal injection; once daily for 10 days) exhibited antitumor activity in mice. [1]
