Description
Crustecdysone (Hydroxyecdysone) is a steroid hormone that regulates the processes of molting or ecdysis in insects.
In vitro
In C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet, oral administration of 20-Hydroxyecdysone (10 mg/kg/day, for 13 weeks) was able to improve obesity and insulin levels, reducing body weight and body fat content.
In vivo
In cells induced by CoCl2, 20-Hydroxyecdysone reduces the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), diminishes mitochondrial membrane depolarization, and suppresses the release of cytochrome c into the cytoplasm, thereby ameliorating cell damage. In H4IIE cells, 20-Hydroxyecdysone effectively lowers the expression of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase), resulting in decreased glucose production.
