Description | Grasshopper ketone, isolated from the brown alga Sargassum, is a potent inhibitor of LPS-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 cells and induces anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting MAPK (ERK, JNK and p38) and NF-κB p65 phosphorylation. |
In vitro | Grasshopper ketone (100 μg/ml) is not cytotoxic to RAW 264.7, and is an effective inhibitor of LPS-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 cells.[1] Grasshopper ketone (0.1-100 μg/ml) significantly reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α (p<0.05). We confirmed the dose-dependent and significant inhibition of iNOS and COX-2 protein expression.[1] Grasshopper ketone (0.1, 1, 10, 50, and 100 μg/ml,) was found to significantly decrease IFN-γ and IL-4 production in concanavalin A-stimulated splenocytes from BALB/c mice with no cytotoxicity.[3] |
