Description
Tylosin (Tylosine) is a macrolide antibiotic obtained from cultures of Streptomyces fradiae. The drug is effective against many microorganisms in animals but not in humans.
In vivo
Tylosin and its phosphate and tartrate salts are used in pigs, cattle and poultry for the treatment of infections caused by organisms sensitive to tylosin. They mav be administered to calves oralv in the milk renlacer at a dose ot 40 moiko body weight (bw) and to cattle, by intramuscular injection, at a dose of 4-10 mg/kg bw. It may be administered in the drinking-water af a dose of 25 mg/kg bw, in the feed at a dose of 3-7 mg/kg bw or by intramuscularl injection at a dose of 2-10 mg/kg bw. Tylosin is administered to poultry in thel drinking-water at a dose equivalent to 75 mg/kg bw. It is used primarily in thel treatment of chronic respiratory diseasecomplex in chickens and infectioussinusitis in turkeys caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
