Description | Oxitropium bromide is a mAChR antagonist. It is used as an anticholinergic bronchodilator drug for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. |
In vitro | Incubation with Oxitropium bromide of the untreated diaphragm muscle and diaphragm muscle injected with endotoxin does not increase the force-frequency curves dose-dependently in vitro; but, it induces both types of muscle to be fatigue resistant. Oxitropium bromide is a muscarinic antagonist that blocks musucarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChR) [1]. |
In vivo | Oxitropium bromide effectively and durably counteracts the increase in resistance caused by acetylcholine (ACh), alongside inhibiting resistance spikes triggered by histamine, serotonin, leukotriene D4, or antigens. This compound, when inhaled, enhances force-frequency curves two hours post-administration and mitigates the reduction of these curves following endotoxin exposure in vivo. Furthermore, inhaling Oxitropium bromide at dosages of 1.5 μg or more significantly reduces the decline in mucus score due to intravenous histamine, albeit this effect is not observed with histamine inhalation [1][2][3]. |
