Description | Choline chloride (Biocoline) is a basic constituent of lecithin that is found in many plants and animal organs. It is important as a precursor of acetylcholine, as a methyl donor in various metabolic processes, and in lipid metabolism. |
In vitro | After oral administration of Choline chloride, clinical symptoms include restlessness, accelerated respiration, reduced activity, convulsions, wrinkled fur, unsteady gait, and respiratory distress. Choline chloride exhibits low acute oral toxicity. Some animals exhibit diarrhea following ingestion of Choline chloride. In one study, the autopsy revealed pulmonary inflammation in 30% of the rats in the high-dose group. |
In vivo | In cell culture, a deficiency of choline can lead to apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death. |
