Description | Danshensu sodium salt (Sodium Danshensu) is sodium salt of danshensu from the widely used Chinese herb Danshen. It can inhibited phenylephrine- and CaCl2-induced vasoconstriction in Ca2+-free medium. |
In vitro | The compound Sodium Danshensu was administered in two different methods to assess its toxicity. When orally administered to mice, the LD50 was determined to be 2356.33 mg/kg; conversely, when injected intravenously into rats, the LD50 was found to exceed 1500 mg/kg. |
In vivo | Danshensu is an effective free radical scavenger and antioxidant. Sodium danshensu exerts a biphasic action on vascular tension, where a low dose may induce minor contractions through a momentary increase in Ca2+ influx, while higher doses predominantly cause significant vasodilation by facilitating the opening of non-selective K+ channels and small-conductance Ca2+-sensitive K+ channels in vascular smooth muscle cells. Additionally, sodium danshensu inhibits vasoconstriction induced by norepinephrine and CaCl2 in a free Ca(2+) medium. Pre-treatment with sodium danshensu can suppress vasoconstriction triggered by norepinephrine and KCl in a dose-dependent manner. |
