Endogenous peptide fragment that is a potent agonist for MRGPRX1 (EC50 values are 8 - 150 nM); first isolated from bovine adrenal medulla. Unlike BAM 22P , does not contain the met-enkephalin motif therefore displays no affinity for opioid receptors.

BAM (8-22) acetate is a proteolytically cleaved product of proenkephalin A. BAM (8-22) acetate activates Mas-related G-protein-coupled receptors (Mrgprs), MrgprC11 and hMrgprX1, and induces scratching in mice in an Mrgpr-dependent manner.
