L-Cysteine
T2O272152-90-4
L-Cysteine (L-(+)-Cysteine) is a non-essential sulfur-containing amino acid in humans. L-Cysteine is important for protein synthesis, detoxification, and diverse metabolic functions. Found in beta-keratin, the main protein in nails, skin, and hair, L-Cysteine is important in collagen production, as well as skin elasticity and texture. Also required in the manufacture of amino acid taurine, L-Cysteine is a component of the antioxidant glutathione, and plays a role in the metabolism of essential biochemicals such as coenzyme A, heparin, and biotin.

S-(N-Methylsulfinylbutylthiocarbamoyl)-L-cysteine
T83898364083-21-6
S-(N-Methylsulfinylbutylthiocarbamoyl)-L-cysteine (SFN-Cys) is an isothiocyanate derivative, functioning as an active metabolite of sulforaphane, a class I and II histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, and anticancer agent. This compound is generated from sulforaphane through intermediates - DL-sulforaphane glutathione and sulforaphane cysteinylglycine - via the mercapturic acid pathway enzymes. At a concentration of 20 µM, SFN-Cys diminishes invasion and migration of U87MG and U373 MG glioblastoma cells as observed in wound healing and chamber assays. Furthermore, at 45 µM, it significantly lowers the expression of α-tubulin, βIII-tubulin, stathmin 1, and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP), and also reduces cell density in paclitaxel-resistant A549 lung cancer cells (A549/T). Additionally, when used at 30 µM, SFN-Cys prompts apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase in U87MG and U373 MG cells.

L-Glutathione, oxidized (sodium salt)
T36173103239-24-3
Glutathione can occur in reduced (GSH), oxidized (GSSG), or in mixed disulfide forms and is ubiquitous in multiple biological systems serving as the major thiol-disulfide redox buffer of the cell. GSSG is the oxidized form of GSH . It can be reduced back to GSH through the NADPH-dependent enzyme glutathione reductase. GSSG functions as a hydrogen acceptor in the enzymatic determination of NADP+ and NADPH and can be a proximal donor in S-glutathionylation post translational modifications. The ratio of reduced glutathione to oxidized glutathione within cells is often used as an indicator of oxidative stress, with higher concentrations of GSSG predicting increased oxidative stress.

DL-Sulforaphane N-acetyl-L-cysteine
T36614334829-66-2
Nrf2 activation of the antioxidant response element (ARE) is central to cytoprotective gene expression against oxidative and/or electrophilic stress. Unless activated by inflammatory, environmental, or oxidative stressors, Nrf2 is sequestered in the cytoplasm by its repressor, Keap1. Because of its protective capabilities, small molecules that activate Nrf2 signaling are being examined as potential anti-cancer or anti-inflammatory agents. DL-Sulforaphane N-acetyl-L-cysteine (SFN-NAC) is a major metabolite of SFN , a powerful inducer of chemopreventative enzymes via Keap1-Nrf2 signaling and ARE-driven gene expression. At 75 μM, SFN-NAC has been shown to increase ARE expression in HepG2-C8 cells. Its reported potency on ARE-related gene expression is roughly 8-fold less than SFN.

N-Acetyl-S-allyl-L-cysteine
T3571023127-41-5
L-Deoxyalliin , also known as S-allyl-L-cysteine, is a water soluble organosulfur compound derived from garlic that has neuroprotective and antioxidative activities. N-Acetyl-S-allyl-L-cysteine is a principal metabolite of L-deoxyalliin in humans, mice, rats, and dogs. It is readily detected in plasma and urine. The conversion of L-deoxyalliin to N-acetyl-S-allyl-L-cysteine appears to be mediated by a family of flavin-containing monooxygenases.

      S-trityl-L-Cysteine
      T368162799-07-7
S-trityl-L-Cysteine is a non-natural amino acid and an inhibitor of Eg5, also known as KSP and Kif11, a mitotic kinesin necessary for mitotic spindle formation. S-trityl-L-Cysteine inhibits the ATPase activity of Eg5 in basal and microtubule-stimulated states (IC50s = 1,000 and 140 nM, respectively). It is selective for Eg5 over nine other human kinesins in an enzyme-coupled assay. It reversibly inhibits Eg5-driven microtubule sliding velocity with an IC50 value of 500 nM using X. laevis recombinant Eg5. It induces cell cycle arrest in HeLa cells (IC50 = 700 nM), reversibly halting the cell cycle in the mitotic phase by inhibiting the separation of duplicated chromosomes and preventing bipolar spindle formation. S-trityl-L-Cysteine inhibits the growth of cancer cells in vitro when tested against the National Cancer Institute (NCI) 60 human cancer cell line panel (average GI50 = 1.3 μM) and in mouse xenograft models.
