Elaeagnaceae, the oleaster family of dicotyledonous flowering plants, which together with the family Proteaceae constitutes the order Proteales. Elaeagnaceae has about 60 species in three genera. Hippophae rhamnoides L. (Elaeagnaceae) is a thorny nitrogen-fixing deciduous shrub. This plant has been used extensively in the traditional system of medicine for treatment of asthma, skin diseases, gastric ulcers, and lung disorders. Isorhamnetin is one of the most important active ingredients in the fruits of Hippophae rhamnoides L., which possesses extensive pharmacological activities.
