Cannabaceae

Cannabaceae is a small family of flowering plants, known as the hemp family, including about 170 species grouped in about 11 genera. Cannabis sativa L. (Cannabaceae) is one of the oldest medicinal plants used by humans. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), hemp seed, which is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, has been used in atopic dermatitis, inflammation, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) for many centuries. Hemp Seed Pill is safe and effective for alleviating functional constipation for subjects in excessive syndrome. Ma Fen, the female inflorescence and unripe fruit, is used in TCM to dispel wind and relieve pain and spasm. Cannabis leaf is used by China's ethnic Uyghur group in to relieve pain and inflammation. Cannabis is also used extensively in Indian and Arabian folk medicine.
