Pedaliaceae

Pedaliaceae, the sesame family, is a small family of 14 genera and 70 species. Its best-known member is Sesamum indicum. Traditionally, its seeds, seed oil, and different organs of the plant have been used to treat various diseases or conditions like ulcers, asthma, wound healing, amenorrhea, hemorrhoids, inflammations, etc. Sesamin (SSM) is a lignan derived from sesame seeds, that exerts multiple nutritional and health benefits, such as an antihypertensive effect, anticholesterolemic, lipid-lowering, and anticancer activities.
