The Hernandiaceae is a family of flowering plants in the order Laurales consisting of five genera with about 58 known species. Plants in the genus Hernandia of the family Hernandiaceae have been used ethnobotanically to treat malaria, postpartum hemorrhage, and morning sickness. Additionally, crude extracts of H. moerenhoutiana and H. voyronii have been reported to exhibit certain antioxidant, antimalarial, cytotoxic, and spasmolytic activities, as well as to inhibit platelet aggregation and prostaglandin biosynthesis.
